About the project
Strix DLSS is a demo that recreates a real location as a digital twin: the architecture, materials and surroundings modeled in Blender and brought into Unity to be explored in real time, with the goal of making the screen pass for a photograph.
The work centered on lighting and visual effects. On Unity's High Definition Render Pipeline, real-time ray tracing handles reflections, shadows and indirect light, while a time-of-day cycle takes the scene from morning to night: low afternoon light raking across the stone, the sun filtering through the central patio, reflections on the glass.
What makes it possible is NVIDIA DLSS, a cutting-edge technology on the rise. Instead of computing every pixel by brute force, a neural network rebuilds each frame in real time from a lower-resolution one: more sharpness and detail, and the performance needed to sustain effects that would otherwise not fit in real time. The result is a noticeably more photorealistic environment, driven by artificial intelligence frame by frame.
